A line around the wheel stops a vessel cold. Rope, cable, net, strapping, and debris wrap the propeller and shaft, bind the running gear, and can damage seals and bearings if the vessel keeps trying to turn. Getting it cleared quickly protects the gear and gets the vessel moving.

Our divers cut and unwind the entanglement by hand and with the right tools, working the propeller, shaft, strut, and rudder until the running gear turns free again. While we are there, we check for damage the wrap may have caused, such as bent blades, scored shafts, and cutlass bearing wear, and report what we find.

    A diver inspects the propeller and shaft to see what is wrapped, how tight it is, and whether it has caused damage.

    Cut and unwind

    We cut and unwind the rope, cable, or net by hand and with tools until the running gear is clear.

    Check the gear

    With the wrap gone, we check blades, shaft, strut, and bearings for damage and confirm the gear turns free.

    Report and advise

    You get the findings and a recommendation on any follow-up work the entanglement may have caused.

Yes. Most rope, line, and net wraps are cleared in the water wherever the vessel is, so it can get back under way without a haul-out.
